Kings Canyon Students Targeted with Opportunities for Prevention

The Students Targeted with Opportunities for Prevention (S.T.O.P.) program, at Kings Canyon Middle School (K.C.M.S.), is an after school-based prevention program with a mission to provide early intervention services to at-risk youth and their families. It’s also designed to gauge the effectiveness of those interventions in reducing the number of school related problems, juvenile delinquency, substance and alcohol abuse, family dysfunction and gang involvement. S.T.O.P. utilizes a wrap-around approach to the family-based intervention efforts in seven communities and fourteen schools. These efforts are family focused and strength-based in nature. The school-based collaboration of all the agencies will provide youth and their families the necessary tools to positively impact the behavior that led to the referral to the program.
Services provided by staff and contracted community based organizations may include, but are not limited to: mentoring, tutoring, recreational activities, interactive theatrical productions, counseling, parenting/family empowerment training, anger management, crisis intervention, family and individual counseling, social services, mental health services, law enforcement services, conflict resolution, gang education and intervention, and substance abuse/alcohol education.
The S.T.O.P. program at K.C.M.S. is directed by the California Health Collaborative, a 501(c)(3) non-profit community based organization, which has been funded by the Fresno County Probation Department.
