Parlier Jr. High School S.T.O.P. Program

The S.T.O.P. Program at Parlier Jr. High School is directed by the California Health Collaborative, a non-profit community based organization, which has been funded by the Fresno County Probation Department. The S.T.O.P. Program has served the students and families of Parlier since the inception of the program in 2001.

The Students Targeted with Opportunities for Prevention (S.T.O.P.) program, is an after school-based prevention program with a mission to provide early intervention services to at-risk youth and their families. It’s also designed to gauge the effectiveness of those interventions in reducing the number of school related problems, juvenile delinquency, substance and alcohol abuse, family dysfunction and gang involvement. S.T.O.P. utilizes a wrap-around approach to the family-based intervention efforts. These efforts are family focused and strength-based in nature. The school-based collaboration of all the agencies will provide youth and their families the necessary tools to positively impact the behavior that led to the referral to the program.

Services provided by the S.T.O.P. Program may include, but are not limited to: mentoring, tutoring, youth development groups, monthly parent presentations, interactive theatrical productions, family, individual and group counseling, anger management, conflict resolution, gang education, substance abuse/alcohol education, referral services, and law enforcement services. Supplementary materials used during program include, WOW-Women of Worth for girls curriculum, Grandma’s Wisdom, Too Good for Violence, Lets get Real and Keepin’ it REAL. In addition, program participants have the opportunity to receive incentives such as, pizza parties, school supplies and merit based field trips.
